On Friday afternoon, two multiple accidents were reported on the Puebla – Veracruz highway involving cargo trucks and private vehicles, with a preliminary balance of two people dead, several injured and considerable material damage. Both accidents occurred after the Esperanza toll booth.
According to the corresponding reports, these were two multiple rear-end collisions, in different events, which caused the closure of the toll road.
One of the road accidents occurred at kilometer 216 of the aforementioned road, where heavy cargo units and private cars were involved. Emergency and security forces went to the scene to deal with the situation.
At kilometer 221, another serious accident was reported, a multiple rear-end collision with the rollover of a heavy cargo unit that was transporting fruit and vegetables. Vehicular traffic was closed from the Esperanza toll booth for a few hours.
Paramedics from Caminos y Puentes Federales (Capufe), as well as elements of the National Guard Highway Division arrived at the scene to carry out the tasks of assisting the victims and flagging off the place.
Unofficially, it was reported that the accidents left two people dead and several people injured who were transferred to different hospitals in the area. The identity of the deceased was reserved.
According to the latest report from Capufe, issued through its X account, users of the Acatzingo-Ciudad Mendoza highway, kilometer 221 in the direction of Veracruz, are informed that counter-flow traffic is being restored.
It also indicates that Capufe and National Guard personnel continue to carry out the care tasks. There is a vehicle load in the area, so motorists are asked to take extreme precautions.
