The UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights defenders, Mary Lawlor, spoke out in favor of the release of Mario Gómez López, in the ejido el Pinar, in the municipality of San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas.
According to the Network All Rights for All (Red TDT), Pascuala López López, Gómez’s wife, announced the arrest yesterday and indicated that the defender has precautionary measures granted by the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and both are incorporated into the Protection Mechanism of the Ministry of the Interior.
On social media, Lawlor stated that she received “very worrying news” about the alleged arbitrary detention of Gómez López. She recalled that “like his wife, the defender Pascuala López López, Mario is a beneficiary of the IACHR.”
