On Wednesday morning, federal and Oaxaca state authorities confirmed an armed confrontation during an operation in Veracruz related to the disappearance of activist Sandra Estefanía Domínguez Martínez, whose whereabouts have been unknown since October 4, 2024.
As a result of the confrontation, three alleged attackers were killed and an element of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) was injured, for which he was transferred to a hospital. However, he died minutes later due to the bullet impacts he received.
According to the official report of the SSPC, headed by Omar García Harfuch, the institution carried out a tactical deployment in collaboration with the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Oaxaca (FGEO) to execute arrest warrants related to the disappearance of Sandra Domínguez.
The operation took place in the vicinity of Federal Highway 147, on the Palomares-Tuxtepec section, in the state of Veracruz. At that point, the agents were attacked by three people and, given the risk that this aggression represented, they returned fire.
Information confirmed by federal sources to Infobae Mexico states that the arrest warrants were issued against two subjects identified as Ubaldo “P” and Artemio “G”, investigated as alleged perpetrators of the crime of disappearance committed by private individuals against the activist and her husband, Alexander Hernández Hernández.
The preliminary data released by García Harfuch through his X account specify that among the aggressors killed was the leader of the criminal cell that would be linked to the case. “Our colleague lost his life in a brave action fulfilling his duty and taking off the streets generators of violence that affect our country,” the head of the SSPC said on the social network.
At the scene of the confrontation, state and federal agents seized three long weapons, a short weapon and various magazines, which were made available to the corresponding authority for prosecution. In this regard, the FGE of Oaxaca began the investigative acts aimed at clarifying what happened.
On October 20, 2024, 16 days after the disappearance of Sandra and Alexander, the Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office announced the capture of an alleged suspect, whom it identified with the initials P.S.V.
This man, arrested in the Veracruz town of El Nigromante, had the activist’s cell phone in his possession. It should be remembered that the victims’ vehicle was located in that same entity, so the authorities have concentrated their efforts in that area.
