How do CDMX photocivic fines apply to cars from Edomex?

If you have a car with license plates from the State of Mexico and you frequently drive in Mexico City, you have probably wondered if photocivics apply to you.

With this system of electronic sanctions, which replaces economic fines for courses, workshops and community work, the question arises as to how they apply to foreign vehicles.

In Autopistas we tell you what happens when a vehicle with license plates from the State of Mexico is registered by the cameras and radars of the capital while committing a violation of the Traffic Regulations.

What are photocivics in CDMX and how do they work?

The Ministry of Mobility (Semovi) explains that photocivics are a system that replaces photo fines and seeks to promote a change in the behavior of people who drive cars in the city.

Therefore, they operate under a points system and their sanctions are of a civic nature. Each vehicle registered and registered in CDMX has a total of 10 points in each verification cycle, but they are subtracted when a violation of the Traffic Regulations is committed.

Some of the infractions that the photocivic system can detect are:

Driving at excessive speed or in the wrong direction.
Invading the pedestrian crossing.
Transporting children in the front seat.
Not respecting the red light of the traffic light.
Making an illegal turn.
Not wearing a seat belt.
Using a cell phone while driving.

If you commit any of the above infractions, 1 point will be subtracted from the total of 10. And if you exceed the speed limit by 40% more than established, 5 direct points will be subtracted.

How do CDMX photocivics apply to cars with Edomex license plates?

Vehicles with foreign license plates (from other federal entities), including those registered in the State of Mexico, are not subject to the photocivic system of Mexico City, Semovi details on its website.

However, this does not mean that they are exempt from receiving a penalty for violating the Traffic Regulations.

All infractions committed by cars with Edomex license plates, which are detected by cameras and speed radars, will be imposed in fines (of a financial nature). Of course, they must be paid to the corresponding authorities.

What sanctions are imposed with CDMX photocivics?

In addition to the penalty of points for cars with CDMX license plates, the sanctions imposed with photocivics depend on the type of infraction recorded. From receiving simple warnings, attending awareness courses and workshops or completing community service hours.

To find out if you have infraction debts and the number of points on your license plate, you will need to enter the site https://tramites.cdmx.gob.mx/fotocivicas/public/, logging in with your CDMX Key and license plate number.

Here you can check the details of each violation, complete your vehicle awareness courses and workshops, as well as schedule your community service hours in case you have been sanctioned.

What happens if you do not complete your courses and community service hours? You will lose the right to carry out the vehicle inspection until you are up to date.
