The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, reported more details about the Mexico-Laredo passenger train project, which she indicated could be called the ‘Gulf of Mexico Train’ in the future.
During her participation in the morning conference from the National Palace, Sheinbaum stated how this convoy will have new dedicated lines for its passage through the entire Mexican Republic to its destination in the border city.
In turn, the passenger train will have right of way, that is, it will share in certain sections the existing freight rails used by the Kansas City Southern de México (KCSM) railway company, now called Canadian Pacific.
She indicated how this project will benefit from the inauguration of the railway bridge in Nuevo Laredo, this coming February 6, which will allow the transfer of cargo from the center of the country to Canada, without the need to change tracks. In the case of the passenger train, she stated that a study is being done for this.
The Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) rail bridge in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, is a bridge that crosses the Rio Grande and the border between Mexico and the United States. The bridge allows the transit of trains in both directions.
Built by CPKC, the second section was completed in December 2024, with an investment of 100 million dollars.
Regarding other passenger train projects, the head of the Executive reported that in April the construction of the Mexico-Querétaro train will begin, and later the Mexico-Pachuca route, which will take two years to complete.
