Leticia Canché, mother of Ismael “El Wero,” revealed that she convinced her son to turn himself in to the authorities for a crime he committed, only for him to be lynched and burned alive by residents of Tekit, Yucatan.

“They burned my son. I couldn’t go see him because they were threatening to burn and kill me,” Leticia Canché said. Her 21-year-old son, Ismael “N,” was lynched after attacking and fatally injuring 69-year-old María “N” with a machete.

Leticia Canché told the media that her son should have faced justice in court, not died in such an inhumane way. She explained that Ismael was hiding on the roof of their house when residents arrived, demanding he be handed over. After convincing him to surrender to the authorities, Ismael came down and confessed his crime to the police. However, as the patrol car attempted to leave, neighbors armed with sticks, stones, and machetes dragged him out and beat him to death.

Through tears, Leticia expressed her heartbreak, stating that she handed her son over for justice, but they killed him instead. She also mentioned that alleged sellers of illicit substances, who contributed to her son’s problems, were among those responsible for the attack.

Leticia is determined to seek justice and has asked the authorities to investigate the case thoroughly. She traveled to Ticul, the capital of Tekit, to recover her son’s body.

Local media reported that Ismael suffered from mental health issues due to illicit substance use. Social media recordings show Ismael walking down the street with a machete before entering a courtyard and attacking the elderly woman without apparent reason. María “N” succumbed to her head injuries hours later.
