Due to the armed clashes in recent days and the alert of explosives on public roads in several municipalities, the United States Consulate in Mexico asked not to travel to Tamaulipas.
The alert issued this afternoon, through its social networks and official website, states that the United States Consulate is aware of increasingly frequent shootings that occur in Reynosa and its surroundings in the late hours of the night and early hours of the morning.
It also mentioned the alert, issued by the government of Tamaulipas, to avoid moving or touching improvised explosive devices that have been found in the area of Reynosa, Río Bravo, Valle Hermoso and San Fernando and its surroundings along dirt and secondary roads.
These explosive devices, the US Consulate points out, are increasingly being manufactured and used by criminal organizations in this region.
He even said that one of these devices “destroyed an official vehicle of the Government of Mexico (Conagua) in Rio Bravo and injured its occupant on January 23.”
As a precautionary measure, he adds, U.S. government employees have been ordered to avoid all travel in Reynosa and Rio Bravo and their surroundings outside of daylight hours and to avoid dirt roads throughout Tamaulipas.
What recommendations does the U.S. Consulate give?
Given the situation of violence and insecurity in certain cities in Tamaulipas, the U.S. Consulate issued some recommendations:
Avoid dirt roads. Stay on paved roads.
Do not touch unknown objects on or near roads.
Plan travel during daylight hours.
Monitor local media for updates.
Stay aware of your surroundings.
Inform your friends and family about your safety.
