Just 48 hours after a man was burned alive in Tekit, elements of the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP) prevented another lynching in Ucú. A man known to wander the streets attacked a doctor in a pharmacy with a club, causing a wound to the doctor’s arm.
The attacker, identified as “Charly,” approximately 39 years old, entered the doctor’s premises for unknown reasons and assaulted him. Witnesses in the pharmacy called the emergency number, prompting the municipal police of Ucú and the SSP to launch an operation to find the aggressor, who had fled the scene.
The suspect was arrested, and to prevent a lynching similar to the one in Tekit, he was protected by authorities. Some people had already gathered at the site of the attack, waiting for the agents and the detainee.
The incident caused outrage among the inhabitants of Ucú, a municipality in the western part of the state, relatively close to Mérida. The doctor was taken to a hospital for treatment.
