The Cozumel Parks and Museums Foundation (FPMC), in collaboration with the Cozumel Cha’an Ka’an Planetarium, invites children aged 8 to 11 to participate in the free workshop “What Mushroom?” on Saturday, February 1, at the Center for Conservation and Environmental Education (CCEA).

The workshop aims to foster a connection with nature through the study of mushrooms. Juanita Alonso Marrufo, director of the FPMC, emphasized the importance of involving children in the knowledge and protection of their natural environment, as part of Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa’s New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo.

Rafael Chacón Díaz, director of Conservation and Environmental Education (CEA), explained that biologist Yazlin Marrufo Novelo, director of the Cha’an Ka’an Planetarium, will give an informative talk on the general characteristics of mushrooms, their classification, importance in nature, and the species present on the island. Following the talk, participants will take a tour along the CCEA environmental interpretation trail to apply their newly acquired knowledge and identify some of the mushroom species that can be seen at this time of year.

Each activity will be supported by biologists and natural resource managers from the FPMC, who will be available to answer any questions and address concerns.

The workshop “What Mushroom?” will begin at 10:00 a.m. on February 1. Registration is open by calling 987-112-9791.
