Quintana Roo is gearing up for trade missions to Belize, Japan, and Orlando, USA, to export at least ten locally made products. Paul Carrillo de Cáceres, Secretary of Economic Development (Sede) of the state government, announced the initiative.

Carrillo de Cáceres highlighted the upcoming fairs in Japan and Orlando, where ten products from Quintana Roo, meeting all export requirements, will be showcased. These products include chocolates, sauces, peanuts, and chewing gum. He downplayed the threat of a 25% tariff on Mexican exports by US President Donald Trump, stating, “First, let’s see if it is fulfilled. We are prepared for it.”

The products destined for Japan are all edible, while the ten companies are working to meet export requirements for the North American market. Companies with the “Made in Quintana Roo” seal and the capacity to meet international demand include Mazorca Negra, Ki’neek (artisanal chocolates), Wellnuts and Mimetate (gourmet sauces), Almendrita’s (almond marzipan), and Chicza (100% natural gum).

Before heading to Japan and the USA, Carrillo de Cáceres will travel to Belize to meet with the Ministry of Commerce representatives. The goal is to explore reducing tariffs and other fiscal burdens on Quintana Roo products, aiming to establish a commercial channel with the Caribbean Community (Caricom).

In July, private and public sectors from Quintana Roo and Belize agreed to strengthen ties for greater tourism and business links and solve common problems. Trade between the state and Belize reaches $5 million annually. A binational inter-institutional table was created with federal, state, and municipal authorities from both countries. Visits by businessmen and authorities from Quintana Roo to Belize were agreed upon to promote tourism in both regions.

According to Data Mexico, Quintana Roo’s international trade last year was between $65 and $70 million, with nearly 7% involving Belize, primarily in sales from Quintana Roo to Belize.
