The president of the National Chamber of Commerce in Querétaro, Lorena Muñoz Altamira, announced that the business sector will seek to expand trade relations with other countries, despite the one-month pause in the 25% tariff on Mexican exports, resulting from the agreement between President Claudia Sheinbaum and Donald Trump.

Muñoz Altamira stressed that, although the temporary suspension of the tariff provides a respite to the Mexican economy, the business sector should not depend exclusively on the decisions of the United States.

“This is an exercise that has to be considered very seriously by the private sector and also by the Mexican authorities,” she said.

The president of Canaco Querétaro noted that for six months they have been working on strategies to diversify markets, in anticipation of possible trade restrictions with the United States. As part of these efforts, relationships have been established with chambers of commerce in Colombia and Guatemala, exploring economic opportunities for Querétaro companies.

“We have the possibility of opening our eyes and turning the panorama around to do business with other countries in Europe, Asia and Latin America,” she concluded.

Muñoz Altamira explained that Querétaro has significant potential in sectors such as metalworking and food processing, which are highly demanded not only in the United States, but also in Latin America, Europe and Asia. In this sense, she emphasized the importance of strengthening commercial ties with other nations that seek similar products and services.

The business leader also recognized the work of President Claudia Sheinbaum and Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard in the negotiations with Donald Trump, highlighting that the intervention of the federal government made it possible to stop a measure that would have affected the national economy and in particular the automotive sector, key for Querétaro.

Likewise, she highlighted the role of the private initiative in defending Mexico’s commercial interests.

“Individuals, Mexican citizens, are the ones who do business, who invest our money and plan projects so that commercial exchanges take place,” he said.
