Since the general charge began on January 31 at the toll booths on the Barranca Larga-Ventanilla highway, various transportation companies are projecting an increase of between 30 and 100 pesos in the cost of tickets between the three tourist destinations in the state: Oaxaca City-Puerto Escondido or from the capital to Bahías de Huatulco.
However, until yesterday the date on which the new charge would apply and the amount for each van company of the lines consulted were unknown: Coatlanes and Villa del Pacífico, two of the several with runs between Oaxaca de Juárez and Puerto Escondido, or the Huatulco 2000 bus company.
When visiting the terminals located in the center of the city and around the Central de Abasto, it was observed that until yesterday the normal rate for the Oaxaca – Puerto Escondido trip remained at 300 pesos (270 in the case of students).
Terminal employees said they have no indications yet of an increase in fares, however, they expect this to increase in the next few days by at least 30 or 50 pesos, so the ticket would go from 300 to 350 pesos in the normal rate at the Villa del Pacífico terminal. At the Coatlanes terminal, a driver said that the increase will probably be 30 or 50 pesos.
In the case of the trips to Huatulco, the cost that remained until this Friday was 350 pesos (both for the super highway and the free road) and it is expected that the increase will be up to 100 pesos to reach 450.
As of this Friday, and after having denied yesterday that there was a date for the start of the toll collection, the Federal Roads and Bridges agency, CAPUFE, said that the toll collection at the super highway toll booths has already begun.
Oaxaca de Juárez, Puerto Escondido and Bahías de Huatulco are the three main tourist destinations in the state, among which the Barranca Larga-Ventanilla superhighway had reduced the travel time. However, they are also places of commercial contact or between which the local population constantly travels for health reasons, study, work, visiting relatives or to move to other points of the state such as the communities near Huatulco and Puerto, also to Río Grande, Jamiltepec and Pinotepa Nacional.
That is why the increase in the cost of the ticket will affect not only the tourist transportation services but the general transportation of passengers and goods.
