With over 25,000 tamales sold and 50 entrepreneurs participating, the 10th edition of the Tamale and Atole Fair celebrated Mexican culinary diversity and traditions at Plaza 28 de Julio.
Residents and tourists from across the country and around the world gathered at Plaza 28 de Julio for the 10th edition of the Tamale and Atole Fair. The event also featured a cultural and artistic program organized by the municipal authorities of Solidaridad.
“I am proud to announce that more than 25,000 tamales were sold today. Imagine the effort and hours spent making that many. This deserves a huge round of applause for all the participants,” said Mayor Estefanía Mercado.
Accompanied by Tourism Secretary Estefanía Hernández, Economic Development and Investment Attraction Secretary Antón Bojórquez, and Chef Héctor Escobedo, president of the organizing committee, Mayor Mercado highlighted the importance of such events in fostering community, culture, and love for Mexican traditions.
“The most important thing is that through events like this, our entrepreneurs bring economic benefits to their families,” said Mayor Mercado, noting that more than 50 vendors had registered for the fair.
Mayor Mercado emphasized that Playa del Carmen is a multicultural city where over 100 nationalities coexist, and where gastronomy holds significant importance. For this edition of the fair, tamales from various Mexican states and countries like Colombia were featured.
“Today more than ever, we must shout ‘Viva México,’ defend our sovereignty, and feel proud to be Mexicans. With events like this, we will continue to show the world what a great country Mexico is and will remain,” she added.
Chef Héctor Escobedo thanked the municipal government for supporting this event, which has become a tradition in Playa del Carmen, and recognized all participants for their culinary talents, making the Tamale and Atole Fair a resounding success.
During the event, awards were given to the top three tamales. First place went to Jéssica Galicia, second to Jéssica Hernández, and third to Teodora Pulido.
