Grupo Piñero, in partnership with Hyatt, has announced an innovative project at the Bahia Principe Grand Coba in Akumal, near Tulum. The project involves transforming 360 rooms from the family complex, which has over 1,000 rooms, into the adults-only Bahia Principe Grand Tequila hotel.

Julio Pérez, CEO of the new Hyatt and Bahia Principe alliance, shared details with Cinco Días, stating that they will also launch a new project in Jamaica with 350 rooms, involving an investment of $100 million on a plot within one of their complexes. This project will be a Bahia Principe Luxury brand hotel managed by the new management company.

The alliance includes a plan to refurbish 40% of Bahía Príncipe hotels, with 60% already up to date. This year, they will invest $124 million, with an additional investment of nearly $100 million planned for 2026 and 2027 each year.

With 51 million loyal customers, Hyatt aims to increase its share of American tourists, who already make up 25% of its Caribbean hotel guests. In the region, American tourism accounts for half of the arrivals, and Hyatt plans to grow its share.

Julio Pérez highlighted that they currently have 22 hotels but believe there is potential to expand the Bahía Príncipe brand throughout the Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Caribbean. The strategy involves incorporating third-party hotels, especially family groups that share similar values and see Bahía Príncipe as the perfect partner.

The new Bahia Principe Grand Tequila promises to offer an exclusive adults-only experience, enhancing the appeal of Tulum as a premier tourist destination.
