A Facebook post by the Umán City Council banning backyard animals and wild fauna in urban areas has sparked annoyance and mockery among users.
The post, published by the Department of Ecology, featured images of pigs, chickens, and sheep. It stated, “The Umán City Council, through the Department of Ecology, prohibits the possession of backyard animals and wild fauna in urban areas to protect health and environmental balance.” The post also encouraged residents to report those who raise animals in prohibited areas.
The post caused controversy due to the lack of information about the types of sanctions and the authorities responsible for enforcing the fines. This led to a divided reaction, as some people raise these animals for self-consumption and to support their family economy.
Internet users flooded the post with complaints, demanding road repairs, improved security, and other community needs. The backlash led to the deletion of the original publication.
