At least five trailers collided on Thursday afternoon on the Zacatecas – Aguascalientes highway; according to the State Coordination of Civil Protection, two of the drivers involved died in the accident.

The events were recorded at kilometer 85 of said highway, near the Genaro Codina municipality.

The report released by Civil Protection specifies that two of these units collided head-on, which immediately caused them to catch fire; upon losing control of them, they crashed into three other trailers that were circulating in the area at that time.

Two of these trucks left the asphalt and another one was left across the road, which caused dozens of motorists to be stranded on this stretch of road.

The accident was reported to the authorities, who immediately went to the scene to control the fire and provide care to those affected.

Upon learning of the events, elements of Civil Protection moved to the area and upon arriving at the scene they verified that two drivers no longer had vital signs.

Likewise, three more people were injured, so they were transferred to the state capital in ambulances from the Civil Protection coordinations of the Luis Moya and Cuauhtémoc municipalities.

Forensic Services arrived at the scene to begin the corresponding investigation in order to know the causes of the accident as well as to carry out the removal of the bodies.

In turn, the flames of the trailers caused a forest fire in the area, so work is being done to contain the fire.

Firefighters from the Ojocaliente and Cuauhtémoc municipalities are providing the necessary support to prevent the conflagration from spreading through the area.

The road has become a high-risk highway due to the high traffic of trailers and transport trucks.

Last October, a semi-trailer hit a passenger bus, causing the vehicle to leave the track and fall into a ravine.

The incident resulted in the death of 24 people.
