Campeche’s economy continues to decline due to the poor management of Governor Layda Sansores, according to financial analysts.

Analysts predict that 2024 will be a particularly difficult year for Campeche, primarily due to the non-payment crisis at Pemex. Additionally, 2025 is expected to be challenging due to significant budget cuts: 1,170 million pesos in participations and a 6.2 percent reduction in federal investment, totaling -522.7 million pesos compared to 2024.

In 2021, the year Governor Layda Sansores took office, Campeche’s economic activity saw a negative variation of 4.1 percent annually, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI). In the second quarter of this year, Campeche ranked second to last nationally in terms of economic activity.

Campeche consistently ranks among the entities with prolonged economic decline, competing for the lowest growth rates in the country. Financial analysts express concern about the state’s economic future under the current administration.
