The expansion and improvement works on the highway to Chapala will begin in March, once the bidding process is concluded, confirms the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP), David Zamora. The works will have an investment of 510 million pesos this year and will be prior to the construction of the mass transit line that Governor Pablo Lemus plans to connect the Guadalajara International Airport with the Agua Azul Park in downtown Guadalajara and then with the AKRON stadium.

Zamora emphasizes that first two side lanes will be built in each direction and, later, the central lanes will be rehabilitated with hydraulic concrete. “We estimate to start at the beginning of March on the highway to Chapala, but there will be no road closures. We will start with the side lanes, there is nothing there, and the flow that you know will continue as normal.” Once the side lanes are finished, they will be used by drivers, with the intention that SIOP will intervene in the central lanes.

The works will be from the airport to the Periférico. And as complementary works, cycle paths, sidewalks, street furniture, hydro-sanitary, electrical and stormwater installations, as well as trees and vegetation in the area will be built. “This is an urban renovation for the 2026 World Cup, so that when tourists arrive they will see a beautiful, illuminated, safe road, with sidewalks and a cycle path.”

The Government will allocate a multi-year investment of 2,550 million for these works.

Regarding the mass or articulated transport project, remember that they will be electric units at the request of the federal Government. It will represent an investment of 13,500 million and consists of a system of 18.5 kilometers from its origin. And federal resources are expected through Banobras.

The Secretary of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport of the federal Government, Jesús Esteva Medina, has already explained that the project is being reviewed to define the resources that could be earmarked.
