Coinciding with the atmosphere of pressure that is registered between Mexico and the United States and after the talk held by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and the American president Donald Trump, this day the inspections began at the San Ysidro checkpoint with Tijuana, including the Sentri line.
The inspections are carried out by elements of the Mexican Army and the Ministerial Police, of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), according to what has been observed so far.
Motorists who queue to cross into the neighboring country have expressed their surprise and discontent with this situation that comes to hinder, even more, the passage between one country and another.
Yesterday, Tijuana’s mayor, Ismael Burgueño Ruiz, announced that they would begin inspections at border crossings, noting that the same would also occur at the Otay checkpoint, to detect people who intend to enter the United States without documents, requesting asylum, and so that the United States federal officers who currently check that border crossing documents are shown can return to their positions and process legal entries more quickly.
However, this occurs as part of the demands of Donald Trump’s government to Mexico to stop illegal migration and the passage of drugs, specifically fentanyl, within a period of one month, while the threats of the application of tariffs that were suspended after having been decreed on the 1st of this month are still pending.
