Controversy Erupts Over Public Erotic Photo Shoot in Río Lagartos Biosphere Reserve

A recent viral sensation has sparked debate and raised concerns about public decency in a popular tourist destination. A series of photographs taken by an onlooker at the Río Lagartos Biosphere Reserve show two individuals, believed to be foreign tourists, engaging in an erotic photo shoot in broad daylight.

The incident has been shared widely on social media, prompting calls for authorities to take action and increase surveillance in the area, which is known to attract families with children. However, so far, no official response has been issued by local authorities, who may ultimately be required to investigate potential crimes against public morality.

According to Article 207 of the Yucatan Penal Code, individuals found guilty of making or distributing obscene content could face a fine and up to five years in prison. Specifically, Section I states that anyone who “makes, reproduces or publishes books, writings, drawings, engravings, paintings, prints, images, advertisements, emblems, photographs, sculptures or video tapes with obscene content” could be sanctioned.

It is worth noting that the code also provides an exemption for activities conducted in pursuit of scientific, artistic, or technical research or dissemination.
