People have been detected trying to take advantage of an expedited appointment program for tractor-trailer operators to obtain a visa for immigration reasons, said the founder of “Visa Americana,” Ana García.
She said that there have been people who have been misusing this program to obtain licenses without having prior experience in the auto transport sector, which is already in the “eye” of the United States Consulate.
She indicated that in a recent meeting with 20 truck operators, when asked about their experience, 2 of them did not know how to answer correctly, which evidenced this problem for the issuance of visas.
“They came for just one day, we asked them questions and I can tell you that 2 of 20 who applied did not know how to answer me, it is very sad that these types of programs are used to obtain an immigration benefit,” she stressed.
Notification of attempts to issue irregular visas
The founder of Visa Americana, Ana García, pointed out that this situation has resulted in consular officials being notified of attempts to issue irregular visas, in order to determine sanctions against those involved.
She pointed out that this modus operandi mainly affects cargo operators who do have experience and are looking for a position as a truck driver for export and import in customs.
This is further accentuated, she indicated, since precautionary measures to improve security have been a priority among the American authorities, which could exacerbate or restrict access to visas.
The consulate is the one who makes the decision of whether the applicant qualifies for a visa, obviously they are looking for an operator profile that does not represent a danger in their country, that will not go and cause accidents,” she said.
It affects more operators in the North of the Country
This situation not only limits operators in Tijuana, he said, but also workers in other federal entities in the North, to the point that just over a third obtain their visa.
“Unfortunately, only around 48 thousand of the 120 thousand tractor-trailer operators nationwide are obtaining it. I think the punishments are being severe and that part must be respected,” he said.
