Colombian President Gustavo Petro Urrego said that the violence generated in the Catatumbo area (northeast of the Department of Norte de Santander) would be linked to criminal groups of Mexican origin, and also said that the Sinaloa Cartel is the “boss” of the National Liberation Army (ELN).

“The owners of these structures are not Colombian commanders, they are the ones who buy cocaine of Mexican origin. The Sinaloa Cartel is the current head of the ELN,” said the Colombian president during the inauguration of the Scientific Complex for the Research of Health Sciences of the Industrial University of Santander, in the city of Bucaramanga, information shared on February 9.

Petro added that young people are recruited by criminal structures, which leads to them killing “their own brothers in exchange for money,” so he said that education is the “best tool” to keep young people from approaching firearms and criminal groups.

“The red and black colors of these structures no longer mean freedom or death, but blood, blood and blood,” he denounced, according to Colombian public radio.

It should be noted that on past occasions the links between the Sinaloa Cartel and Colombian criminal groups, as well as those from other countries, have been documented.

“The revolution cannot be death. The revolution cannot be drug dealing and drug trafficking because the revolution has to be dignity,” Gustavo Petro stressed on February 7.

CJNG and the Sinaloa Cartel, the criminal groups in Colombia
It should be remembered that last June the document The contrasts of humanitarian reality was published. A country that seeks peace, prepared by the Ombudsman of Colombia and which indicates that both the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Sinaloa Cartel (both criminal groups of Mexican origin), have a presence in Colombian territory.

While a document from the Colombian Ministry of National Defense obtained by this publishing house highlights that the Sinaloa Cartel has “emissaries” on the Colombian coast, with which they contact other criminal organizations.
