On Tuesday morning, residents of the municipality of Acatlán de Pérez Figueroa, in Oaxaca, alerted authorities about the discovery of four human bodies on a stretch of road. Hours later it was confirmed that among the victims were personnel from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) who worked in Veracruz.

Through a statement, the Attorney General’s Office (FGE) of Oaxaca explained that the deceased, all male, were located on the side of the road that connects Acatlán de Pérez with the Veracruz town of El Amate, belonging to the municipality of Tierra Blanca.

After the first inquiries and a series of interviews, the corporation confirmed that the murdered people were identified as F.A.V., J.V.R., A.B. and J.M.N. The main hypothesis is that they were deprived of their freedom in the state of Veracruz and later abandoned, already dead, in the border area between both states.

On the night of February 10, the first reports began to circulate in local media about the kidnapping of the victims, who were apparently traveling aboard two CFE vans in the Antorcha Revolucionaria neighborhood of Tierra Blanca.

In the preliminary reports it was revealed that the Commission workers were forced to get into a vehicle that fled to the center of the municipality. Only the public company’s vans remained at the scene, which were kept under the guard of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Veracruz.

For several minutes, security personnel and coworkers of the victims toured the area with the intention of finding clues regarding their whereabouts, but were unsuccessful.

After the discovery of the bodies, personnel from the Regional Vice-Attorney’s Office of the Cuenca and the State Investigation Agency of Oaxaca deployed an operation to secure the scene and gather the first clues that would allow the investigation file to be put together. The file was subsequently handed over to the Veracruz FGE to carry out the corresponding investigations.

According to data from the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons (RNPDNO), a total of 37 disappearances have been reported in the municipality of Tierra Blanca between 2020 and 2024. At the state level, the municipality of Veracruz is the one with the highest number of disappearances, with 985 cases. It is followed by Xalapa (539), Córdoba (301) and Poza Rica (246).
