The Volarte 2025 Festival is an event where the sky of Cholula is adorned with kites of different sizes, shapes and colors; this year’s edition will be celebrated under the motto ‘The Flight of Quetzalcoatl’ and will take place in the following days. Other types of attractions for the whole family can also be found.
As in other years, the participation of hundreds of attendees is expected, and the venue is approximately half an hour from downtown Puebla, although there are also different public transportation options. This time the event will be held within the framework of Valentine’s Day.
During the three days of the festival, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy various family activities, including workshops, musical performances and a show with a wide variety of kites. In addition, several surprises are prepared such as prizes and raffles, as well as a contest.
What are the details of the contest?
This year, the festival will be held from February 14 to 16 at the Intermunicipal Park of San Andrés Cholula, next to the Great Pyramid. Among the various activities scheduled is a kite contest.
Participants of all ages can join this event, as this way they will have the opportunity to demonstrate their creativity and skill in making handmade kites, as was stated in the rules.
This time, the theme will be ‘Quetzalcoatl’, the emblematic Mesoamerican deity that symbolizes the wind and vital energy. Therefore, it is requested that the kites incorporate elements alluding to this figure, either through designs, drawings or specific decorations. It is divided into three main categories:
Couples: Scheduled for Friday, February 14, in commemoration of Valentine’s Day, this category invites two people to collaborate in the creation and flight of their kite.
Children and Family: On Saturday, February 15, children, along with their families, will be able to participate in the making and raising of their kites.
Master or Professional: Aimed at the most experienced, this category will take place on Sunday, February 16 and will feature the participation of experts from various regions of the Mexican Republic.
How does registration work?
Registration for each category is free and will be open from 12:00 to 14:00 at the event location. The dynamic will take place between 14:00 and 16:00, although these hours could be adjusted depending on wind conditions.
It is essential that the kites be handmade; since purchased or prefabricated structures are not allowed. In case of presenting very elaborate designs, a video will be requested showing the manufacturing process to validate its authenticity.
In the Children’s category, the winners will receive prizes in kind, while in the Professional category, the cash prizes will be 10 thousand pesos for first place, 5 thousand pesos for second place, and 3 thousand pesos for third place. In the case of the Family category, the first prize will be 3 thousand pesos, the second 2 thousand pesos, and the third 1 thousand pesos.
It is necessary to comply with all the rules in order to be considered. In addition, attendees who buy a kite at the event stands will participate in a raffle, where the main prize will be a bicycle.
