The newly appointed Secretary General of the Government of the State of Aguascalientes, Antonio Arámbula López, highlighted that the entity does not suffer the same problems as others in terms of drug trafficking and consumption, however, he stressed that it is an issue in which citizens, authorities and corporations cannot let their guard down.
The former mayor emphasized regarding the issue of fentanyl, a controversial substance that has become a trend due to its addictive potential, effects on the consumer, accessibility and even a cause of disagreements between countries. In Mexico, it is ruled out that this drug has been transferred beyond the border with the United States.
“Fentanyl is in the United States and in Mexico, we are not alien to that reality, however, Aguascalientes is an entity with much less drugs than others and less trafficking than others” declared the former mayor of Jesús María
Although Arámbula López did not rule out that the opioid has already been consumed on the streets of the state, he did not confirm it either. However, he assured that it is not the main drug consumed in the state (crystal or marijuana), an argument that is used to affirm that fentanyl is not consumed in Aguascalientes.
“However, it is not ruled out that there is something that has not been detected, but that it is not the main drug, although it should not be ruled out that there was something, but I do not think that we are so affected by this problem” he added.
According to the Mexican Observatory of Mental Health and Addictions, Baja California, Sonora, Sinaloa and Chihuahua are the main states with demand for treatment for fentanyl consumption. It is reported that there have also been cases in Baja California Sur, but on rare occasions.
