The Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel did pressure the mayor of Villa Hidalgo, Jaime Cruz, to remove the director of public security of the municipality, revealed the wife of the mayor, Brenda Montañez, who last weekend was deprived of her liberty by the criminal group in Aguascalientes and later released.

In an interview given by Montañez to the media JLM Noticias, of Aguascalientes, she said that although the Cartel pressured to remove the person in charge of security of the municipality, it was not required to place a specific person in the position.

The president of the DIF also revealed that everything arose from the comment of a person who apparently wanted to hold an event organized by the mayor’s son and accused him of money laundering; as a result of that – she said – last week the criminal group first deprived the mayor Jaime Cruz and his son of their liberty, then two other people and her and a minor who accompanied her to pick up a vehicle in Aguascalientes.

She said that during the time she was held captive – from the afternoon of Saturday, February 8, until the early hours of Monday, February 10 – she was treated well and was not harmed, as the leaders of the criminal group only wanted to “clear up rumors and keep everything peaceful.”

Finally, she said that she and her husband will talk to evaluate whether they will continue in their positions or ask for leave after what happened.
