One week after his arrest, it was announced that Ricardo “G”, alias ‘El Ricky’, was brought to trial for his alleged responsibility in crimes against health and possession of firearms for the exclusive use of the Army.

On Tuesday morning, the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) reported that ‘El Ricky’ was prosecuted by a Specialized District Judge in the Accusatory Penal System of the State of Mexico (Edomex), based in Almoloya de Juárez.

El Ricky was prosecuted based on the evidence presented by the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office during his hearing, after which he was given official preventive detention. Therefore, he will have to remain behind bars for the duration of his trial.

Currently, El Ricky is being held in the Social Readaptation Center (Cefereso) Number 1, also known as El Altiplano, located in the municipality of Almoloya de Juárez. In addition to being linked to the process, a month was granted for the closing of the complementary investigation.

The arrest of El Ricky —also known as Mando R— occurred on the morning of February 3 in the municipality of Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. Elements of the National Guard located him on Francisco Echegaray Street in the 150 Aniversario neighborhood.

On that occasion, El Ricky tried to escape to avoid being arrested. However, he was intercepted by the authorities. At the time of his arrest, said subject possessed a long firearm and a short one, as well as 1,509 fentanyl pills and 434 grams of methamphetamine.

According to security sources consulted by Infobae Mexico, El Ricky served as regional head of the Cartel del Noreste in at least three entities: Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and Coahuila, all in northern Mexico.

Due to his involvement in criminal acts, he was considered one of the most relevant operators of the Cartel del Noreste, only behind Juan Cisneros Treviño, alias ‘Juanito Treviño’, identified as one of the leaders of the criminal organization.

Although El Ricky was linked to drug trafficking activities, it was reported that he also had two arrest warrants: one for attempted qualified homicide against public servants and another for qualified damage caused by fire, flood or explosion.

It was reported that this individual is the mastermind behind various armed attacks against police officers. In 2022, he participated in an attack directed at elements of the Civil Force of Nuevo León that left six officers dead.

Two years later, on August 17, 2024, El Ricky coordinated cells of “Los Chukys” (linked to the Cartel del Noreste) to attack members of the Army in Nuevo Laredo. On that occasion, two soldiers lost their lives and five others were injured.
