State and federal security forces will be permanently installed in Pantelhó and municipalities of that Altos region, with surveillance tours in communities and highways to strengthen security and guarantee justice.
Security authorities affirmed that Pantelhó is a municipality that has recovered its tranquility, after “years of disputes between criminals that had unleashed a climate of violence and insecurity that affected the area.”
This Wednesday, the Secretary of Public Security, Oscar Alberto Aparicio Avendaño, the state attorney general, Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca, representatives of the Government Secretariat, municipal authorities and community leaders toured Pantelhó “to verify that security is maintained in the Altos of Chiapas.”
Government authorities launched a call to generate the necessary and adequate conditions that promote the return of families and people who were displaced by conditions of violence.
They then toured the streets and the market of the municipal capital “to verify that there is a climate of social peace.”
According to the security strategy, the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force group, attached to the Security Secretariat, State and Municipal Police, Mexican Army and National Guard, will be permanently installed in Pantelhó.
Military and police will maintain surveillance patrols on rural roads, community highways and municipal capitals of Pantelhó and the other municipalities of the Altos region.
In Pantelhó, members of the self-defense groups “El Machete” and the group “Los Herrera” have been fighting for political power with firearms for more than three years.
They seek to return to classes in Pantelhó
The residents of Pantelhó revealed that the Secretary of Education of Chiapas, Roger Mandujano Ayala, met this Tuesday in San Cristóbal de las Casas with supervisors, zone chiefs and municipal school directors
The meeting was to propose that they return to their jobs in the schools of that municipality where classes remain suspended and are partially taught.
A teacher who was at the meeting, held at the Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez elementary school, said that the purpose was for them to “return on Monday” because Ramírez Aguilar will supposedly go to Pantelhó on Saturday “when it will be calm.”
The supervisors, zone chiefs, directors and staff who were at the meeting said that the teachers stated that there are no conditions that guarantee the stay of teachers in Pantelhó, “because sometimes the National Guard does nothing and the federal and state authorities have not yet given a solution to the conflict.”
The teacher said, under condition of anonymity, that there are no security conditions because “El Machete” and “Los Herrera” operate in the area, therefore the agreement was that the teachers would return to their schools until the next notice.
At the meeting, he said that they told the Secretary of Education that they do not refuse to return to classes, that the request is to guarantee the stay, since “when the shooting starts, nobody supports us.” And the worst thing is that some supervisors “force teachers to go to schools and do not measure the consequences.”
Classes have not been held regularly since April 2024, when a confrontation arose and several teachers were trapped for two or three days, in the end they left the area as best they could.
Due to this risky situation, the educator added, in some educational centers such as secondary schools, teaching is done online and in primary schools in towns with the help of school booklets.
