Temporary Closure of Uxmal Archaeological Zone Due to Safety Concerns

The INAH Yucatan Center has announced the temporary closure of the archaeological zone of Uxmal on Tuesday, February 11, due to safety concerns for tourists. The closure is expected to last only a few hours, with the site reopening later the same day.

In a brief statement, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) explained that the closure was prompted by the fall of a beehive, which caused bees to disperse in the area. The security and protection team is working to ensure that there is no risk to visitors.

The archaeological zone will reopen once all necessary measures have been taken to guarantee the safety of tourists. INAH assured visitors that their safety is a top priority and thanked them for their understanding.

“We appreciate your understanding and ask that you stay tuned for future updates. The safety of our visitors is our priority,” INAH said in their statement.
