Uber could leave Puebla if motorcycle transportation is not eliminated

Uber could stop operating in Puebla if it maintains its refusal to eliminate the passenger transfer service by motorcycle, warned the state Secretary of Mobility and Transportation, Silvia Tanús Osorio.

In an interview, the official said that this year the platform must renew its concession to offer the executive taxi service in the state, so it will be crucial to observe the terms under which this process is carried out.

She pointed out that the company has not responded to the calls of the agency, and was emphatic in recalling that the authority in matters of mobility and transportation in Puebla falls on the Secretariat that she heads.

“This year they have to renew their concession and we will see under what terms it is renewed, because the truth is that they are in a plan of ‘almost, almost they are doing us the favor of answering my call’ (…) I am an authority, I am not very important, but the one who dictates the rules of what can and cannot be done in matters of mobility and transportation in Puebla is your servant,” she said.

She reported that so far 21 Uber Moto units have been sent to the impound lot for operating without authorization and warned that these will not be returned until the company removes this modality from its application.

Likewise, she warned Uber Moto driver partners that they could be detained at any time and face fines that, according to the official, “exceed the value of the motorcycles.”

Finally, she reiterated her call to citizens not to use this service, since the units do not have insurance, which implies that, in case of an accident, there will be no support to cover the damages, so “cheap is expensive,” she concluded.
