US asks not to travel to 6 states in Mexico; alert level 4 is set

The U.S. State Department has issued a level four travel alert, the highest on its scale, for six states in Mexico due to high rates of crime and kidnapping.

The warning urges U.S. citizens not to travel to these regions:

  • Colima: Due to crime and kidnapping.
  • Guerrero: Due to crime.
  • Michoacán: Due to crime.
  • Sinaloa: Due to crime.
  • Tamaulipas: Due to crime and kidnapping.
  • Zacatecas: Due to crime and kidnapping.

According to the report, these states are experiencing high levels of violence, homicides, kidnappings and robberies. In addition, the use of improvised explosive devices by criminal organizations was reported, especially in Tamaulipas. Restrictions for US government employees The State Department also imposed restrictions on its employees in Mexico, including:

  • No travel between cities after dark. • No use of taxis hailed on the street; Uber or regulated taxi sites are recommended. • Avoid traveling alone, especially in remote areas. • Prohibition of driving from the US border into the interior of Mexico, with limited exceptions.
