The recently inaugurated Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres Hotel in Quintana Roo, a project by Grupo Excellence Collection, has opened 470 rooms with an investment of 220 million dollars.
Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa emphasized the importance of recognizing the people behind tourism during the inauguration. She stated, “Today is the time to humanize tourism, to recognize that its true strength lies in the people.” She highlighted the vital roles of maids, receptionists, waiters, bartenders, hosts, hostesses, and gardeners, who represent the friendly face of Quintana Roo to the world.
The governor was joined by Antonio Montaner, CEO of Grupo Excellence Collection, shareholders Bernat Pascal, Pedro Montaner, and Martín Santandreu, Isla Mujeres Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, and Pablo Casas Gómez, undersecretary of Promotion and Tourism Operation of the Quintana Roo Tourism Secretariat (Sedetur). Together, they cut the ribbon to inaugurate the hotel.
The governor acknowledged the vision and confidence of the Excellence Collection Group, which plans to invest an additional 200 million dollars in Puerto Morelos. She also highlighted the tourism sector’s progress in 2024, with nearly 33 million passengers passing through Quintana Roo’s four international airports, generating an economic impact of nearly 20,000 million dollars.
Governor Lezama underscored the significant investments in tourism infrastructure, including the construction of the Mayan Train and the Tulum International Airport, which are positioning Quintana Roo as a leading tourist destination in Mexico, Latin America, and the world. The Federal Government is also working on the Cancún-Isla Blanca Tourist Boulevard project to further boost the state’s growth.
“We are doing very well, and the best is yet to come. This is just the beginning of a great path that we will travel together, without leaving anyone behind and absolutely no one out, because in the transformation we are experiencing, development must be for everyone, in shared prosperity,” concluded Governor Lezama.
According to Sedetur, additional hotel openings planned for 2025 include developments by Grupo Excellence in Puerto Morelos, Hotel H10 Costa Mujeres by Grupo H10, Majestic Elegance Costa Mujeres by Grupo Majestic Resorts, and Hotel Riu Ventura by Grupo Riu in Cancún, adding nearly 2,500 rooms. The recently remodeled Meliá Casa Maya Hotel also reopened last week, following an investment of more than 26 million pesos.
