In a grand celebration of Valentine’s Day, love, and friendship, more than 1,200 couples tied the knot in group weddings in Quintana Roo, with Playa Delfines providing the picturesque backdrop.
Governor María Mara Lezama officiated the legal union of 351 couples in Cancún, serving as an honorary witness alongside Verónica Lezama Espinosa, the honorary president of DIF Quintana Roo, and Ana Paty Peralta de la Peña, the municipal president of Benito Juárez. The couples formalized their union before the law in a memorable ceremony.
Governor Lezama highlighted the profound meaning of these weddings, describing them as a consolidation of commitment, the realization of a dream, and the legal affirmation of love. She expressed gratitude to her sister, Verónica, for her role in fostering strong and happy homes through the DIF Quintana Roo System.
Lezama emphasized that this act of love strengthens the social fabric and the community’s foundation. She reiterated her government’s commitment to well-being and shared prosperity, noting that it begins at home with each family.
Among the couples were Jesús Medina Hernández, 70, and Graciela Hernández Arias, 62, as well as an equal-sex couple, Gloria Tec Nahuat and Aida Arcos Hernández. The ceremony, conducted by Civil Registry official Mirley Castillo Pacheco, was a poignant moment for all participants.
Ana Paty Peralta welcomed the couples and, following the ceremony, Governor Lezama expressed her satisfaction with the collective weddings. She noted that these weddings are more than a tradition—they represent social justice, equity, and recognition.
Governor Lezama concluded by celebrating the diversity of the couples, including those who have shared a lifetime, raised children, and even grandchildren. She affirmed that collective weddings are a vital act of social justice and community solidarity.
