A few weeks ago, a regrettable event in which a child lost his life in a kindergarten in Jocotepec, put into question the condition of the educational establishments in Jalisco. Recently, the Civil Protection and Fire Department units of the state have been dedicated to verifying the facilities of schools in the town, where they detected that 94 of them need structural attention.
However, the work to prevent another accident of this type from occurring is not over yet. Sergio Ramírez, coordinator of Civil Protection and Fire Department Jalisco, reported that four more schools in poor condition have been identified in this area of the Chapala riverbank, for which reason work is already underway to generate the corresponding attention.
What are the risks presented by the schools inspected?
The coordinator of Civil Protection and Fire Department, indicated that even one of the new schools detected that need attention has suspended activities due to the risks represented by the damage to its structure.
“In fact, there are four schools that we are reviewing in Chapala, we reviewed two yesterday, the school in Ajijic is not in use, it has been decided to remain that way with activities suspended due to the risk conditions it has, there is structural damage in the secondary school,” said Sergio Ramírez, coordinator of Civil Protection and Firefighters Jalisco.
The coordinator added that, for the moment, the corresponding steps are already being taken to be able to address these problems, this with the objective of avoiding any affectation to students, teachers and other personnel of this site.
He also detailed that the school located in Ajijic will probably have to be extensively intervened, since the structural damage is evident. Therefore, it will be the Institute of Physical Educational Infrastructure of the State of Jalisco (Infejal) who will determine the process to follow with this school.
“I think that Infejal will have to review this to see if it is demolished, if it is built again there or if it is built in another place previously, when it involves demolitions or when it involves making a double effort in the budget exercise, it has been decided to build in another place. So it is a decision that they will have to make later,” added Sergio Ramírez, coordinator of Civil Protection and Firefighters Jalisco.
