In the state of Zacatecas, there have been increases in the price of eggs of up to 20% in the last two weeks.
“The supplier tells us that it is expensive because bird flu has arrived in the United States and people are crossing into Mexico to buy eggs,” said Margarita, owner of the “Candelaria” grocery store in the city of Jerez, an establishment where the product went from 45 pesos per kilo at the beginning of February to 56 pesos last weekend.

Similar increases have also been recorded in the food market in the city of Zacatecas. At the Mega Pollo establishment, the price went from 44 to 53 pesos.
At the “27 de Enero” egg store, also in the food market, in the last two weeks it rose from 39 to 43 pesos; however, the increase has been constant so far this year, since at the beginning of 2025 the kilo of egg was only 30 pesos.
In other establishments the increase has not been so clear. For example, in the OXXO in the Las Quintas de Guadalupe neighborhood, the kilo of egg rose only three pesos, going from 42 to 45 pesos in the last week.
In the city of Fresnillo, the price fluctuation is very uneven, since while in some stores there have been slight price decreases, in others it has risen up to 14 pesos, such as in Abarrotes “Lupita”, where the egg is currently offered at 52 pesos, while at the end of January it was at 38.
