Querétaro has become one of the main data storage and processing hubs in Latin America, with a capacity of nearly 900 megawatts in data centers, reported Alejandro Sterling Sánchez, Secretary of Economic Development of the municipality.

The automotive sector contributes 17% of Querétaro’s GDP

The state ranks first in auto parts production and third among those with assembly plants; 55% of FDI was related to the manufacture of transportation equipment
Although for security reasons the exact number of companies in the sector installed in the capital cannot be revealed, Sterling Sánchez assured that the city competes internationally with regions such as Virginia, North Carolina, Berlin, Montreal and Rio de Janeiro.

“Without a doubt, there is no other competitor in Mexico,” he said.

The growth of the data industry is a global trend, since the volume of information generated and the need for its protection are constantly increasing. In this context, Querétaro has attracted investments from large technology companies such as Amazon, Google and Microsoft, consolidating itself as a strategic point in the sector.

Sterling Sánchez explained that, in addition to data centers, Querétaro also collaborates with San Antonio, Texas, in industries such as cybersecurity and aerospace.

“They are two key sectors in which we work together, focused on technological development, advanced manufacturing and research,” he said.

Querétaro’s positioning in the data industry has been such that it has been compared to the “Valley of Data Centers” in Latin America.

“More and more companies see the city as a strategic destination for the storage and management of information, which generates an economy based on technology,” said Sterling Sánchez.
