Security forces deal a heavy blow to organized crime in Fresnillo

In a joint operation carried out in the municipal capital of Fresnillo, Zacatecas, security forces managed to dismantle a criminal cell, resulting in the arrest of six people and the seizure of weapons and illegal substances.

According to the statement issued by the State Public Security Secretariat, the action was derived from intelligence work and preventive patrols in the Azteca neighborhood. Members of the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Forces, the Rural Operations Group, the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the Metropolitan Police and the Investigative Police of the State Attorney General’s Office participated in the operation.

The detainees were identified as Manolo N., 23 years old, originally from Nayarit; Julio César N., 34 years old, from Coahuila; María Esther N., 54 years old, originally from Durango; and three people from Zacatecas: Juan Manuel N., 20 years old; Moisés N., 22 years old; and Valeria Abigail N., 19 years old.

During the operation, the alleged criminals tried to evade the authorities and attacked the operational personnel, which led to a chase that ended with their capture. Among the objects seized were two long weapons, a short weapon, three magazines, useful cartridges of different calibers and a tactical vest.

In addition, the authorities seized various illicit substances, including six packages with a crystalline substance presumably identified as “crystal”, 15 packages with white powder with characteristics similar to cocaine, and six packages containing green and dry grass with the appearance of marijuana.

Arrest of six people

According to preliminary investigations, the detainees could be linked to various homicides recorded in recent weeks in the region, including an assault that occurred last Friday in Fresnillo. The six individuals, along with the seized evidence, were made available to the competent authorities for further investigations.
