In recent days, a mural began to generate controversy among the inhabitants of the municipality of Chiapa de Corzo, although it was not made in the Magical Town. The artist Tesk Tesk created the work titled “Parachiques enamorades”, celebrating love and sexual diversity, which provoked criticism and triggered the decision to erase the painting at all costs.

This mural was located on Tonalá Street, between 14 Poniente Sur and Copainalá Street, in the Xamaipak neighborhood, just behind the Bisquet`s Obregón restaurant in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

The work showed two parachicos sharing a kiss under the emblematic shadow of the “La Pila” fountain. According to its creators, the mural sought to highlight the cultural identity of Chiapas and promote a message of inclusion and affection.

From its pre-Hispanic origins to its current tourist wealth, this Chiapas municipality keeps its traditions and historical legacy alive

However, the objective was not met, since the wall was completely covered with white paint by a former candidate for the presidency of Chiapa de Corzo, identified as Carmelo Martínez Sánchez, who, dressed as a parachico, made a live broadcast justifying his action. Martínez Sánchez alleged that the image violated the tradition of the festival, which caused young people to clean the white paint again and rediscover the work.

The situation did not end there. Hours after the attempt was made to erase the mural, two hooded men spray-painted the work. A young man, wearing a cap and black face mask, covered the paint in black, finally managing to completely erase the mural.

This mural, which was intended to be a message of support for the LGBTIQ+ community, ended up being criticized and destroyed, generating mixed reactions on social media, both positive and negative.
