Million-Peso Project in Tizimín Shows Rapid Deterioration

Less than six months after the renovation of Tizimín’s Central Park, the million-peso project, once hailed as a highlight of former mayor Pedro Couoh Suaste’s administration, is already showing serious signs of deterioration.

Since its inauguration, damages have become increasingly apparent. The bollards (concrete posts) installed in the park now exhibit cracks, fissures, and even breakages, such as the one in front of the main church. This has caused concern among residents, who had expected a more durable and quality project.

According to current municipal authorities, the damage results from poor-quality materials used in the bollards, which lacked necessary reinforcement and thus deteriorated quickly. City Hall staff have begun addressing the issue by constructing new bollards with more resistant materials.

The Public Works Department noted that repairs should be covered under the project’s warranty. However, they have yet to receive a response from the company responsible for the renovation, despite multiple attempts to contact them since last year.

This issue is seen as an example of poor management during the tenure of former mayor Pedro Couoh Suaste. Local critics argue that he prioritized quick completion over ensuring quality, revealing that the project was not planned with the necessary care.
