The security of Cancun’s hotel zone was called into question again after an attempted execution in broad daylight on Monday, February 17. The incident occurred near the Grand Oasis Cancun hotel.
According to Quintana Roo Hoy, around 12:30 p.m., a group of armed men opened fire on a street vendor on the beach in front of the resort at kilometer 16 of Kukulkan Boulevard, causing panic among tourists and locals.
Multiple emergency calls reported up to 10 shots, prompting a strong security response. The Tourist Police, State Police, Navy, and National Guard were deployed to the area, but despite an intense search, the attackers managed to escape.
The street vendor, who was the target of the attack, was unharmed and left the scene before the authorities arrived. Officers remained in the area to reassure hotel guests.
