Doctor held his wife hostage for 26 years in Chiapas; what happened to her?

On February 13, the State Attorney General’s Office arrested José “N”, a doctor and presumed responsible for the crime of attempted femicide, committed against his wife, whose identity has been withheld, in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.

How did the kidnapped woman ask for help?

According to the agency, they received a call for help on the C5 radio station, where it was reported that in the Jardines de las Flores subdivision, a female person had requested support from the security guard, since she was illegally deprived of her freedom by her partner.

An operation was immediately carried out with elements of the Attorney General’s Office, Sedena, the National Guard, the town’s Security Secretariat, the Pakal Immediate Reaction Force and the Municipal Police.

Upon arriving at the home, a female person was located, claiming to have requested help, since her husband, a doctor by trade, had her illegally deprived of her freedom.

What happened to the doctor who kidnapped his wife?

The police entered the home with the consent of the offended person and located a person inside the property, who upon noticing the presence of the security elements tried to flee; however, he was arrested.

Inside the property, a .357 magnum caliber revolver-type firearm was seized; a 9mm caliber pistol-type firearm and two magazines with a capacity of 14 cartridges each; a .4.5 mm caliber air rifle; a 2-caliber rifle and two magazines; a rifle-type replica firearm and a magazine; a 12-caliber shotgun-type firearm; 159 9mm caliber live rounds; 250 useful .22 caliber cartridges and 11 useful 12-caliber shotgun cartridges.

Parents of the victim ask for justice

On Monday, February 17, the victim’s parents sent a letter addressed to the state governor, Eduardo Ramírez Aguilar, and the state attorney general, Jorge Llaven Abarca, where they demand that the state attorney’s office apply the full weight of the law against José “N.”

The letter details that the victim remained kidnapped in her home for 26 years, where she was subjected to threats and manipulation, being a victim of violence.

What happened during her captivity?

During this time, the alleged criminal isolated her from her family, kept her locked up, beat her, limited her access to food and constantly threatened her with firearms.

“On the day of the rescue, the multidisciplinary operation found our daughter in a critical condition, after having been brutally beaten and almost suffocated. The aggressor, upon being discovered, threatened her with a shotgun and a handgun, urging her to take her own life,” the letter details.

The victim’s parents request the support of the three levels of government so that justice is done in accordance with the law. They ask that the alleged perpetrator be prosecuted in accordance with article 325 of the Federal Penal Code, and that the duality of gender be investigated, since sometimes he took on the role of a man and sometimes the role of a woman, which he maintained in his daily life, since the authorities confined him in the women’s prison in the state capital.
