Mexico City (CDMX) security elements located 27 migrants who were kidnapped in a hotel in the center, in the Cuauhtémoc municipality, reported the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC).

“The timely attention to the complaint of a foreign citizen allowed personnel from the Tourist Police of the SSC to rescue 27 people from India, Nepal and El Salvador, who were deprived of their liberty in a hotel,” said Pablo Vázquez, head of the agency.

The events occurred on the afternoon of Friday, February 21 when the Tourist Police of the SSC received a call from a man “who sounded nervous” and said he was in a hotel where they would not let him leave.

After knowing the location, the agents arrived at a hotel on Pino Suárez Avenue, in the Centro neighborhood, where, while they were interviewing a woman who said she was the owner, they heard noises and voices in other languages, so they entered the place.

Inside the hotel there was a group of people with “visible bruises, they were also nervous and dirty,” and a person who said they were Salvadoran reported that they had been in the place for about 15 days and that cell phones, IDs, passports, money and other belongings had been taken from them.

Due to these events, there were three detainees, a 53-year-old woman and two men, aged 29 and 20. They also seized a replica of a firearm, 20 cell phones, IDs and passports were recovered, as well as two dogs.

The migrants, of which 25 were from India, one from Nepal and one from El Salvador, were assessed by paramedics from the Rescue and Medical Emergency Squad (ERUM) and diagnosed with anxiety attacks. They were subsequently transferred to the Kidnapping Investigation Prosecutor’s Office for follow-up on the case.

After filing their complaint, the people on the move were taken to the Social Assistance and Integration Center (CAIS) in the Venustiano Carranza district, where the authorities reviewed their immigration status.
