A man from the United States was reportedly intercepted by armed men and deprived of his liberty in the municipality of China, Nuevo León.
According to news reports, the man was heading in a van from the border to Monterrey when he was detained by the attackers.
Reports indicate that the events occurred on the afternoon of Friday, February 21, and so far the state and municipal authorities have not commented on the matter.
The incident reportedly took place at kilometer 144 of the highway to Reynosa, where the victim was traveling in a black van.
The man does not answer messages or calls
It has transpired that, although his family tried to contact him by calls and text messages, his phone appears to be off, as calls go directly to voicemail and WhatsApp messages do not arrive.
The last time the man was heard was while he was driving along kilometer 144 of the same highway.
In addition to not knowing his whereabouts, there is also no information about the RAM 4X4 truck in which he was traveling, so it is presumed that the attackers also stole it.
The case is being investigated by authorities at all three levels of government, although so far there are no further clues. More information is expected to be released in the next few hours.
Anyone with relevant information about the case can call 911 or the emergency numbers.
Reminiscent of the case that occurred in Tamaulipas
This incident is reminiscent of the one that occurred two weeks ago in Tamaulipas, when the body of Mexican-American businessman José de la Luz Martínez Ramírez, 81, was found. He had been reported missing after traveling to Mexico to make a property tax payment.
The state prosecutor’s office confirmed the discovery of the body on Saturday, February 8, through its social networks, expressing its regret for the death of the octogenarian.
Police investigators and experts went to the scene to process the scene and collect evidence to determine the cause of death.
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Tamaulipas thanked the authorities and society for their support in the search efforts.
