They say there is a place in our country where only photographers, painters and writers from all over the world go in search of inspiration. Its name is Álamos and it is an old mining town located in Sonora. It sits on the foothills of the Sierra Madre, very close to the Cuchujaqui River. You can also go there if you feel like disconnecting from the world and locking yourself in a magical bubble.

Álamos, the Magical Town of Sonora

Álamos, Sonora joined the Magical Towns Program of Mexico in 2005 due to its cultural and historical wealth, but also for its architectural and gastronomic beauty. As such, this destination was founded on December 8, 1685, just when the vein of silver better known as La Europea was discovered. However, at that time it used to be called Real de la Limpia Concepción de Los Álamos and, later, its name changed to Real de los Frailes.

‘The City of Portals’

Esta ciudad se construyó por arquitectos españoles

Over the years, Álamos was called ‘the city of portals’. But why? This name is due to its architecture. Álamos was built by architects who came from Andalusia, Spain. Therefore, some of its buildings and mansions have this Spanish baroque style and that touch left by the Ostímuris, an ancient indigenous civilization.
