El Solar is a small hidden market in the vastness of Chapultepec Forest in Mexico City. Not only will you find a variety of 100% Mexican, organic and artisanal products, but you will also be able to indulge in traditional food from our country.
What is there in El Solar, the hidden market in Chapultepec, Mexico City?
The dynamics of El Solar are different from those of other markets in Mexico City. The vendors who offer their items change every weekend. On each visit you will find different products, so don’t forget to ask for their contact information in case you want to find them again.

The best thing of all is that this visit supports local commerce. Each of the invited stores are from different parts of the Mexican Republic or from the 16 municipalities of the country’s capital. The producers themselves will sell you their products directly.
When we went to Chilango we found blue corn tortillas from Milpa Alta, spirulina algae from Chimalhuacán, seasonal fruit from Puebla and Veracruz, honey and vegetables from Xochimilco, free-range eggs from Otumba and artisanal cheese and cajeta from Jilotepec.
But that’s not all you can find in Chapultepec in Mexico City. You can buy jewelry, textiles, mezcals, pulques, nopal snacks, coffee, chocolate or other options of the best quality. 100% made in Mexico!
Just like in any market, El Solar also has a great gastronomic offer. In front of the stalls are the Smoke Kitchens, an option to taste dishes from other parts of Mexico.

It has the same dynamic. The cooks change every weekend, bringing a different menu on each occasion. Of course, the only thing that doesn’t change is the excellent flavor of all the dishes.
Imagine eating barbacoa from Tlaxcala, quelites and huauzontles from Tláhuac, tlaxcales from Xochimilco, rabbit stews from Cuajimalpa, tlacoyos and blue corn quesadillas from Milpa Alta, cecina and chorizo from Yecapixtla, tlayudas from Oaxaca, just to mention a few.
And, if that were not enough, you can enjoy the beautiful view that Chapultepec Forest in Mexico City offers us. Next to the clay ovens and grills there is a space with wooden tables and benches, which will make you spend a good weekend tasting your food.
Where is it located?
The El Solar Market and the Smoke Kitchens are located in Cencalli: House of Corn and Food Culture, located on Avenida Parque Lira S/N, Bosque de Chapultepec I Secc neighborhood, in the Miguel Hidalgo district of Mexico City.
To get there by public transportation, you can get off at the Constituyentes station on Metro Line 7 and then walk through the entrance to the Los Pinos Cultural Center; it’s a few minutes away. You can also get off at the Los Pinos station on Cablebús Line 3; it’s the same route.
