A man and a woman of foreign origin were found dead on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 25, inside a rental apartment in the Cuauhtémoc district of Mexico City.
The events occurred in a housing unit located on Emilio Dondé and Tres Guerras streets in the Centro neighborhood.
Officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) were alerted to the presence of unconscious people in the Cuauhtémoc district.
Upon arriving at the site, the officers interviewed a 61-year-old woman, who said that it was a couple who identified themselves with virtual credentials from the state of Texas in the United States.
The woman found the unconscious couple inside one of the apartments when she went to notify them of a repair due to a leak in the water meter, so she knocked on the door on different occasions.
When the couple did not respond, the woman decided to open the apartment and, upon entering, she saw the unconscious foreigners, so she called the authorities.
Civil Protection (PC) paramedics also came, who treated the couple. The man, 35 years old, and the woman, 37 years old, were diagnosed with no vital signs and with a cause of death to be determined.
“In accordance with police protocols, they secured the area and notified the Public Ministry agent for expert services and investigations of the case,” the SSC detailed in a statement.
Journalist Antonio Nieto reported that the identity of the foreign couple is Laura April and Hugo Iván. So far, two possible versions of the cause of their death have been reported: by intoxication or by violence.
However, it is expected that experts from the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City will carry out the corresponding procedures to determine the cause of death of both people.
Antonio Nieto also detailed that the man was found with a closet door on top of him, but the investigations are still ongoing.
Foreigner shot dead in Cuauhtémoc municipality
On February 8, a Colombian citizen was shot dead in a direct attack carried out on Nuevo León Avenue in the Hipódromo Condesa neighborhood of Mexico City.
The attack was carried out by two men who were riding an Uber Eats delivery motorcycle, who passed by the site and shot him at least 8 times.
Immediately, elements of the SSC went to the site to secure the place and locate the suspects.
For his part, the head of the SSC, Pablo Vázquez Camacho, reported that the search for the probable perpetrators was carried out through the C2 and C5 cameras.
“We will work in a coordinated manner with the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City to arrest the alleged aggressors so that this case does not go unpunished,” Vázquez Camacho wrote on social media.
