58-year-old Fisherman Attacked While Working in Mahahual

A 58-year-old fisherman, Arnulfo Ernesto Gutiérrez Ramos, was bitten on the leg by a shark while working in the municipality of Mahahual, Quintana Roo. The incident occurred during net extraction work in the Banco Chinchorro area.

This attack marks the second shark incident in the region in recent years. According to the Harbor Master’s Office, Gutiérrez Ramos suffered a 15-centimeter bite on his left leg and a fractured kneecap.

He was rushed to the IMSS Social Security Clinic in Chetumal, where he received specialized medical care. Despite his injuries, Gutiérrez Ramos is now stable and out of danger, his family reported.
