The United States Embassy in Mexico confirmed the implementation of repatriation flights to the border with Guatemala, which are landing in Chiapas, in order to make it difficult for irregular crossings to recur.
Illegal entry is not a game; being deported is final, was the message expressed by the Embassy in the last few hours.
Also, the embassy emphasized immediate and final deportation as a consequence of irregular crossings.
First flights
On February 20, the Tapachula International Airport received a flight from the United States with a total of 122 compatriots.
The INM commissioner, Francisco Garduño, supervised the actions to comply with the protocol that establishes the Procedure for Repatriation to the Interior of Mexico (PRIM), in which representatives of 12 agencies participated, providing them with basic health care services, job guidance and general procedures to begin the integration process in their country.
The repatriated people were: 98 men, 18 women and six minors (2 girls and 4 boys), originally from Puebla, Guerrero, Chiapas, Morelos, Oaxaca, Guanajuato, Veracruz, Mexico City, among others, it was reported.
Fear
At the time, Gerardo Coutiño Montes, researcher at the Autonomous University of Chiapas (Unach), visualized an adverse situation for the Chiapanecos who reside in the United States, as well as those who receive remittances, due to the entry of President Donald Trump.
Coutiño Montes considered the “Trump effect” extraordinary due to the series of economic and migratory measures sustained since day one of his mandate; which has generated uncertainty and misinformation for the population in migratory mobility.
What happens in the United States is felt in Mexico sometimes immediately in the medium or long term, but with the entry of Trump, his promises were fulfilled from day one. Today we are certain that this is the case and will continue to be the case, he said.
The specialist called for observing economic measures regarding the international competition of the dollar, because it could affect its confrontation with the peso, which would complicate the issue of sending money.
Mexico is in second place worldwide with the highest number of remittances sent, only below India. If this is the case, Chiapas is possibly one of the most affected states due to having a porous border and a cradle of migration to the United States, he added.
