Elements of the Oaxaca State Police carried out a work stoppage this Wednesday to demand that hundreds of agents not be fired after failing the control and confidence exams.
Since 7:00 a.m., the police took over the corporation’s headquarters to demand dialogue with the authorities and the dismissal of Iván García Álvarez, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) of the entity.
Hours after the demonstration began, Karina Barón Ortiz, head of the Executive Secretariat of the State Public Security System, went to the headquarters to talk with the protesters and address their demands.
According to the elements, a document is circulating that includes a list with the names of at least 400 police officers who would be fired by the SSPC after having failed the control and confidence exams, which has generated uncertainty for them.
Some police officers complained to Commissioner Plácido Jarquín that they had not received a copy of the resolution of their exam, and that they would not sign their resignation without receiving compensation.
However, after having read the documents in which the dismissal of hundreds of officers was supposedly notified, Barón Ortiz stated that she did not read that there would be a massive dismissal in the corporation.
“Let us not be carried away by rumors, I am reading the documents and at no time do I see that they say that they are being dismissed,” said the head of the Executive Secretariat of the State System of Public Security.
To which the officers replied that they should not be fooled and that these documents were a form of intimidation against them.
In addition, when one of the police officers declared that the commissioner had asked the officers to present their resignation before they were notified, Jarquin denied it.
Plácido Jarquín accused the officers of having given a different meaning to the document and stated that at no time would the security department carry out a mass dismissal because “for each officer it is an individual procedure.”
The protesters requested new documents proving that they would not be dismissed and that there would be no reprisals against them. For his part, the commissioner proposed that the confidence test be presented to the officers again.
