A video circulated on social media has sparked controversy after showing the moment when a rider received 50 thousand pesos, allegedly from a man identified as “El Señor de los Gallos,” a nickname associated with Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG).
The incident occurred during the Autlán de Navarro Carnival, at the Alberto Balderas Bullring, last Friday, February 28. The event in question was the 4×4, a bull riding competition in which four teams of riders participate on bulls considered to be the bravest.
In one of the videos circulating on social media, the host can be heard addressing a rider identified as “Kikito,” originally from Jalisco, to announce the delivery of the money with the following words:
“What do you think? Here in my hand I have 50 thousand pesos and the ‘Lord of the Roosters’ gives them to you with all his heart.”
The rider, after hearing the mention of the supposed benefactor, took off his hat and raised his arms in a sign of gratitude, while the crowd in the square cheered him.
Another video recorded from another angle shows a similar interaction. On this occasion, more of the presenter’s speech is heard:
“Pay attention, ‘Kikito’, come here, there is a very big surprise for you. They say that the hands that give will never remain empty, and tonight there is a man who wants to thank you for your bravery, courage, skill and for everything you have been through. What do you think? Here in my hand I have 50,000 pesos, and the Lord of the Roosters gives them to you with all his heart.”
However, it is not only the supposed gift of money that has caused controversy. Several street vendors were seen wearing jackets with caricatured images of “El Mencho,” which has raised concerns about the normalization of his image at public events.
The Autlán de Navarro Carnival, which takes place from February 23 to March 3, is one of the most important festivities in the region and features the participation of well-known artists. This year, among the guests are Panter Bélico, Julión Álvarez, La Adictiva, Natanael Cano, Santa Fe Klan, Conjunto Primavera and Banda MS.
Despite the dissemination of these events on social networks and in the media, federal and state authorities have not issued any statement about the delivery of money in the name of “El Mencho” or alleged acts of apology to the CJNG.
Previous tributes
This is not the first event in which the name of Oseguera Cervantes is mentioned publicly. In January 2025, in the community of Tinaja de Vargas, Michoacán, a party was held in his honor.
According to videos released, fireworks structures in the shape of roosters and the image of Saint Jude Thaddeus were displayed during the event. Banners with photographs of “El Mencho” and Javier Guerrero Martínez, former leader of the criminal group Los Guerreros, were also installed.
At the event, the narcocorrido “El del Palenque” by Los Alegres del Barranco was performed, whose lyrics directly mention the leader of the CJNG: “I am the owner of the palenque / Four letters go to the front / I am from Michoacán / Where is the Tierra Caliente / I am the Lord of the Roosters / He of the Jalisco cartel.”
The tribute in Tinaja de Vargas also included fireworks with the initials CJNG and a figure of Oseguera Cervantes with his name on the base. To date, neither the Michoacán nor the federal government have issued further statements about the January 15 event.
In December 2024, in the municipality of Coalcomán, Michoacán, members of the cartel organized a celebration where they handed out gifts to children and families. According to videos posted on social media, the donations were made in the name of “El Mencho” and other leaders of the group.
Due to these events, the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) began an ongoing investigation involving Anavel Ávila Castrejón, mayor of Coalcomán.
In January 2025, similar activities were reported in Aguascalientes and Tabasco, where members of the CJNG handed out toys and food. In the recordings, families are seen lining up to receive gifts, while armed men supervised the delivery.
